Representatives from A.L.I.V.E. will be traveling to Zambia this summer for the Zambian National Youth Rally to be held July 3-7, 2009 at Mulungushi University in Kabwe, Zambia with speakers Dr. Samuel Koranteng-Pipim and Pr. Justin Kim. The rally will also serve as the national launching pad for the IMPACT missionary movement.

These exciting happenings ultimately date back to May 2008, when A.L.I.V.E. helped sponsor a two week long medical & evangelistic mission trip to Zambia with Dr. Samuel Koranteng-Pipim, Pr. Steven Conway and Dr. Sula Mazimba. The results of that two week trip were little short of phenomenal, including 589 requests for Bible study and over 129 decisions for baptism.

In July 2008, A.L.I.V.E.’s Vice President for Evangelism traveled to Zambia and had the opportunity to follow up with the local student leaders. As they shared our reflections at an evaluation meeting, it became evident that God had used the May mission trip to revive and re-ignite a fire in many of their hearts. It only seemed natural to ask the question: “How do we spread this spirit of radical dedication to all Seventh-day Adventist young people in Zambia?”

What followed was an intense season of brainstorming, which gave birth to the idea for the national youth rally being planned for July 3-7, 2009. The aim of the rally is to inspire, train and mobilize a generation of Zambian Seventh-day Adventist students and young professionals, who will, by the grace of God, hasten the second coming of Jesus Christ.

But the young people who met that Tuesday evening didn’t want to just host a regular rally. They wanted the rally to be the launching pad for a movement, an “army of youth, rightly trained,” who would carry “the message of a crucified, risen and soon coming Savior,” to not only Zambia, but the whole world.

Thus, the idea for IMPACT (Inspired Missionaries Proclaiming the Advent of Christ today) began to materialize. IMPACT is a bold evangelistic initiative whose aim is to recruit, train and deploy Seventh-day Adventist young people as missionaries to Zambia’s remote areas and to the concrete jungles of Zambia’s secular university campuses.

The first IMPACT mission in October 2008 took 16 student missionaries to rural Makeni where, in a period little short of two weeks, they shared over 135 Bible studies and saw over 120 people give their lives to Jesus! The national youth conference this July will mark the nationwide launch of this grassroots youth evangelistic initiative!

You’re invited to join the A.L.I.V.E. team traveling to Zambia this July! In case you missed the dates:

July 2-7 for the Zambian National Youth Rally

July 7-16 for the IMPACT Medical Mission Trip

Email evangelism@africansalive.org to get involved!

The independence of Ghana in 1957 sparked a liberation wave across the continent that culminated in the end of apartheid in South Africa in 1994. Yet today, more than 50 years after Ghana’s independence, thousands of Africans still die from hunger on a continent rich in agricultural resources. A continent abounding in culture is plagued with tribalism and racism. Malaria and HIV/AIDS continue to claim lives and destroy families.

In the light of such dire social and economic situations, one is forced to ask, what is the root of the problem? What does this country – and continent – really need? What will it take to effect lasting and positive change?

The pen of inspiration provides what we believe to be a penetrating answer:

“The greatest want of the world” – and of Africa – “is the want of men, men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall…” Education p. 57

That is the need: the need of young men and women who are wholly, totally and radically committed to God and to His cause. For years, political alliances and economic embargoes have failed of providing the solution because they can not penetrate to the root of this spiritual problem, which demands a spiritual response.

Impact Africa, an initiative of Africans Living In View of Eternity (A.L.I.V.E.), seeks to provide that spiritual response. By supporting evangelistic efforts in Africa, we aim to inspire and challenge a generation of Seventh-day Adventist young adults on the continent determined to hasten the second coming of Jesus.

At the ALIVE 2009 conference, there will be a special Impact Africa networking session where you will have the opportunity to engage these questions, to dream about and plan for positive change in Africa. Join us in Waxahachie, Texas, June 4-7!

Until then, we’ve listed some exciting initiatives on this site…get involved! Africa needs you! Be ALIVE!
